The Best Stretches & Exercises to Stay Injury-Free This Summer!

Summer is here — and with it comes more time outdoors, weekend getaways, and plenty of physical activity. Whether you’re hitting the beach, hiking trails, or just ramping up your workouts, keeping your body flexible and injury-free is key.

At Roosevelt Chiropractic, we want you to enjoy every moment of summer without being sidelined by pain or strain. Here are our top chiropractor-approved stretches and exercises to help you stay active and injury-free all season long:

Daily Dynamic Stretches

1. Leg Swings
Loosen up hips and hamstrings with 10–15 leg swings forward/backward and side-to-side.

2. Arm Circles
Get the shoulders warmed up with 20 small to large circles in each direction.

3. Spinal Twists
Stand tall and gently rotate your torso side to side. This promotes spinal mobility and reduces stiffness.

Targeted Flexibility Stretches

1. Hip Flexor Stretch
Perfect after long drives or sitting — step one foot forward into a lunge and gently press the hips forward. Hold for 20–30 seconds per side.

2. Hamstring Stretch
Place one heel on a bench or curb, keep your leg straight, and gently lean forward. Great for runners and walkers alike.

3. Chest Opener
Clasp hands behind your back and lift slightly while opening the chest. Ideal for counteracting poor posture.

Summer Strengtheners

1. Glute Bridges
Lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat. Lift your hips, squeeze your glutes, and lower slowly. Builds core and glute strength to stabilize your spine.

2. Bird-Dogs
On hands and knees, extend opposite arm and leg. Strengthens your core and improves balance — essential for any summer sport.

3. Planks
The all-around core builder. Start with 30 seconds, working your way up as you build endurance.
